The Opportunity
The role is to provide team leadership and technical test expertise and support to client implementations and day-to-day operations of systems for internal and external clients.
Improve the technical test aspects of our End to End test cycle incorporating DevOps, Continuous Integration and Continuous Testing techniques. This position will assist that growing and evolving journey, owning the Agile test strategy and supporting the team in the efficient execution of automated tests in a CI/CD environment. In addition, the role involves the active contribution to the strategic evolution of the overall Quality Engineering and Assurance (QEA) function

What you will bring to the role

  • Assist the planning and implementation of the future Agile / DevOps test process as part of the overall E2E Test Process
  • Understand business requirements in order to help the team write test case scenarios and automated tests;
  • Produce neat, dated, referenced and fully documented work which is easily reviewed and can be followed up at a later date;
  • Be aware of work that may not be included in the fee agreements for clients, escalating any change in scope appropriately;
  • Monitoring CI builds and ensuring they remain green with all automated tests passing;
  • Maintain an understanding of changes to pension's legislation that may impact the functionality of our products / systems and processes / procedures;
  • Ownership of automation test strategy using SBE Gherkin/SpecFlow/Selenium-WebDriver in C# Visual Studio. Ensuring that all automated tests are checked in to version control (VSTS) and integration in to CI process (VSTS);
  • Creation of performance tests (Load, Stress, Soak and Spike) using Visual Studio and Azure and integrating them in to the CI process (VSTS);
  • Review of automated and performance tests written by developers and testers, ensuring internal standards and best practices are adhered to;
  • Testing responsibility for identifying project risks and giving high-level estimates for future work to high-level stakeholders during EIA and scoping sessions;
  • Recruitment of permanent and contract testers;
  • Line management of testers, conducting regular 1:1s and providing support, development and mentoring;
  • Coaching developers and testers in the UK and and off-shore India team on testing techniques and different types of testing e.g. automation, performance and security;
  • Managing environments in the Azure Cloud, ensuring they are optimised and costs are monitored;
  • Working with the technical support team on production issues and monitoring the applications performance/health;
  • Supporting testing conducted outside of the Agile SCRUM teams involving UAT, workshops, training, demonstrations and presentations.


Desired technical skills and experience

  • Experience of test management, performance test and test automation tooling and frameworks to ISTQB standard (Test Manager / Advanced Test Manager level)
  • Knowledge of automation frameworks that validate functionality at different levels of the technology stack (e.g. WebService, GUI, Unit) in SBE Gherkin/SpecFlow/Selenium-WebDriver in C# Visual Studio
  • Understanding of Agile techniques desirable (e.g. BDD, TDD)
  • Identification, management and understanding of Change Control
  • Solid working knowledge of Microsoft suite
  • Automation Tooling desirable but not essential:
    • Smartbear Test Complete
    • Selenium
    • Soap UI
  • Experience of TFS, Visual Studio, VSTS, Coded UI, MTM, SpecFlow, StormRunner, LoadRunner, JMeter or similar tooling
  • A good understanding of SQL, C#
  • Problem solving skills and ability to think laterally
  • Good stakeholder management skills
